Sarah Toy is a fiction writer and reporter. She is working on a short-story collection and novel, and was most recently a staff writer in The Wall Street Journal’s health and medicine bureau, where she covered maternal and child health, chronic illness, mental health, infectious diseases, and the CDC.

Before that, she covered energy for the markets team, where she reported on trends in oil and gas. Prior to the Journal, she wrote about pharmaceutical and biotech companies at WSJ sister publication MarketWatch.

Before becoming a journalist, Sarah worked on health research at Boston Medical Center for years, studying the basic social needs of mothers and children and social determinants of health. In 2012, she started medical school at Boston University School of Medicine, but realized mid-way through her training that journalism and writing were her true passions. Since then, she's been chasing down stories and loving every minute of it.

Sarah has a graduate degree in journalism from Boston University and a bachelor's degree from Union College, where she studied biology and music. She also holds a masters in healthcare management from Clarkson University.
