About Sarah

Sarah Toy is a reporter with The Wall Street Journal’s health and medicine bureau, where she covers public health and the burden of disease. She writes about maternal and child health, disparities in health and healthcare, chronic illness, mental health, infectious diseases, and public-health institutions.

She previously covered energy for the Journal’s markets team, where she reported on trends in oil and gas. Before that, she covered pharmaceutical and biotech companies at MarketWatch.

Before becoming a journalist, Sarah was involved in health research at Boston Medical Center for years, studying the basic social needs of mothers and children and social determinants of health. In 2012, she started medical school at Boston University School of Medicine, but realized mid-way through that journalism was her true passion. Since then, she's been chasing down stories and loving every minute of it.

Sarah has a graduate degree in journalism from Boston University and a bachelor's degree from Union College, where she studied biology and music. She also holds a masters in healthcare management from Clarkson University.
